Tonight was my third trip to SushiON in LaQuinta and it did not disappoint. We always sit at the sushi bar so we can watch the owner/chef make his masterpieces. Also, we get to chat with the other diners about what they recommend and see the final product. Another advantage is we can order item by item until we are full…or over budget! My friend started with a California Roll then decided to have a bento with katsu chicken and spicy tuna. It looked excellent when it arrived. The chicken was thin and perfectly cooked maintaining a moist interior. Not at all thick and greasy like others we have had elsewhere. He admitted that it filled him up and the CA roll starter was a overkill. I went a la carte, after sake, starting with a spicy tuna hand roll, followed by scallop sashimi, unagi, then baked mussels which came with a delicious light sauce. All were well presented and tasty. Capping off our meals was a complimentary mini-ice cream cone smothered in rich chocolate.

With a large, diverse menu of rolls, salads, tempura, ramen, and carpaccio, there should be a choice for everyone. SushiON is not large but has table seating and does a brisk take-out volume which does not interfere with in-house service. It might get noisy with large groups, but I have not experienced it that way. I searched quite a time to find an authentic, reasonable and fun sushi bar east of Palm Springs. This is the place for me. There is plenty of off street parking. Domo arigato
